U-bend with washing machine fittingFilling with water when not in use?

By following the advice below, you can correct the fault yourself and improve the results of your wash.

back to home

Modern plumbers for speed and their convenience will often connect the washing machine drain hose (Picture above) directly to the U-bend under the sink.  This can sometimes cause the water draining from the sink to flow into the washing machine rather than going to the main drain.

Unpleasant odours!

The water from the sink in your washing machine can cause a build up of a greasy deposit, and unpleasant odours can form in the machine.

Plumbing diagramUnless the waste pipe to the main drain is blocked, this can be rectified by raising the height of the washing machine waste hose at some point so that it is higher than the outlet pipe from the sink.

Is your machine still filling with water?

If your washing machine is still filling with water after you've raised the height of the waste hose, and the waste pipe to the main drain isn't blocked?

Call our Engineer, before you do too much damage!

Our fixed labour charge for a repair is £40.00, plus any parts required. We don't charge VAT.

This price remains fixed and is not based on an hourly rate – it is one simple cost which covers your repair whether we complete it on the first call or have to come back another day if parts need to be ordered.

Unlike some other repair businesses, we say fixed and we mean exactly that – there are no hidden extras apart from the cost of the part which we identify and quote to you when we carry out the initial inspection.

We maintain a " No Call-out Charge " policy, which simply means if we call to your home to carry out repairs to your appliance – but for one reason or another we're unable to repair your appliance, there will be no charge. We accept Debit and Credit Card payments
